Breaking the spell by indoctrinating you with yet another one.
Breaking the spell by indoctrinating you with yet another one.
A lesson about men:
Men are more enamored by their beer than by the women they’re out with. Even those these women seem somewhat beautiful and lovable. Men love their beer, with a clear head, without hesitation. But women? They can’t love them the same way. They just can’t.
Also, notice how in both Miller spots, the women CAN. The woman can initiate this conversation or manage to spit out “you’re my soulmate” without a hint of irony. Because women are so emotional and loving. And men are destined to only love beer. In the Carlsberg spot, it’s really her mistake. Only in her dreams could he love ehr the way he loves that beer. Or something.

I am literally in shock
Been doing a lot of thinking about fat-hating in our culture, thanks to the lovely Harriet Brown.
Yesterday, family member says to her 6YO daughter “No you can’t have another chocolate milk, you don’t want to get F-A-T.” Argument and hardcore eye-rolling ensued.
Just for the record, my arguments are as follows:
1. There’s a difference between raising healthy children and instilling unhealthy thoughts that lead to unhealthy body images. Sure, feed your kid healthy foods and make sure she gets all the necessary nutrients and whatnot. Of course. But don’t make it about being fat or skinny, make it about health. Because those things are not the same.
2. There is enough that creates weight complexes for kids today without their parents adding to it. This study says troubling 37% of 4th graders have ben on diets within the past year. And the girl in question is in the 1st grade. There’s enough problematic imagery out there that makes girls hate their bodies from a young age. We don’t need to breed that in our houses for girls to have eating disorders. That risk is there regardless.
I think Sarah Haskins’ “Target Women” is working. I’ve started noticing more ads like this:
Ads mocking ads! Loves it.
I saw a better one from this campaign, but it’s not on youtube, so this will suffice
There was another one that I can’t think of right now. I think it had a shot of people riding a horse. Anything? I know this post is subpar, sorry.

It is getting warmer, so it’s time for bicycling. This campus is relatively bike-friendly, but the people within it are not. Here are some easy ways for walkies to accommodate their two-wheeled peers:
• Quit texting. When you’re texting, you aren’t paying attention to anything else, which is dangerous! For everyone!
• 5-across is too many! Taking up the entire width of the meager sidewalk is not cool.
• Look before you turn. Or really, look around constantly. Be aware of your surroundings.
• Clear the curbcuts. This is a cyclist’s only portal into campus.
Enjoy the lovely weather, and make way for bikes!
